The monsoon season has intensified, and heavy rain is expected to continue in many parts of the country. According to the latest weather update, 20 states are on high alert due to continuous downpours. From June 23 to June 27, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned about possible thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall in several regions. People are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Weather Impact in North and East India
States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana are likely to witness intense rainfall. In Bihar and UP, the alert has been issued for districts such as Patna, Gaya, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi. These areas may experience waterlogging, traffic issues, and power cuts. Tourists in hilly regions are especially advised to be cautious as landslides are also predicted in parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Central and Western States Under Alert
Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat will also receive heavy rain during this period. The weather department has issued orange and red alerts for multiple districts. In Mumbai, waterlogging may disrupt suburban train services. Vidarbha and Nagpur in Maharashtra, and Bhopal and Indore in MP are on high alert. These regions may also face flash floods due to continued rainfall.
South and Northeast India Not Spared
In the southern region, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala are all expected to get heavy showers. Coastal and interior Karnataka may see rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. In the northeast, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are already witnessing strong rains. The situation might worsen with rising river levels and flood threats in low-lying areas.
Safety Advisory and Relief Measures
The IMD advises residents in affected states to follow official weather bulletins and stay prepared for emergencies. Authorities have been put on standby in vulnerable districts. Schools may remain closed in some areas depending on local government decisions. Travellers should check train and flight status before starting their journey.
