CNG vs Petrol Cars in 2025 : By 2025, auto buyers in India were getting smarter as well as becoming more budgeting-oriented. If we have seen such inflated fuel prices recently and the entire world is looking toward being more environmentally friendly, all this puts the consumer in a state of confusion whether to go for CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) cars or straight petrol ones. Fuel Cost & Mileage
Economically, CNG cars work cheaper than cars running petrol. In most cities, the price of CNG per kg is just half of that of petrol per liter. Why? CNG cars have better fuel economy – about 25-30 km per kg vis-a-vis petrol cars averaging 15-20 km per liter. Hence, CNG cars really save quite a bit of money if long distances are what you drive on the daily.
Pricing & Availability
Generally, petrol cars cost a bit less than the CNG dual-fuel alternatives. This translates into a difference of about ₹90,000 to ₹1 lakh more than the petrol version for the same model with a factory-fitted CNG kit. CNG fuel stations are barely scattered, especially on highways and in small towns, while petrol stations are located almost everywhere, very convenient during a long trip.
Performance & Driving Characteristics
On the whole, petrol engines are smooth and tend to respond quicker. Lower power output of CNG cars compared to petrol, although it is economical, may be felt while driving. In the city itself, as opposed to this minor difference we hardly notice in CNG cars. But on the highway rides and hilly areas, petrol engines tend to feel alive.
Boot Space & Maintenance
The CNG cylinder takes a lot of the boot space in OEM-fitted CNG cars which leaves little room for luggage. This can be troublesome on family trips. CNG cars require regular maintenance checks for the gas kit and valve system, which petrol cars do not need, so they are easier and cheaper to maintain.
