Semolina Upma Recipe : Semolina Upma is a great breakfast that is prepared in no time and is also very tasty and spicy. You need very few ingredients to make it, and it is ready in 10 to 15 minutes. You can use fresh semolina and your favorite vegetables, and with the best combination of these, you can prepare a very tasty semolina upma. It is also a good option to give it in children’s tiffin. It is prepared in less time.

Ingredients required make Semolina Upma:

  • Semolina (Rava) 1 cup
  • Water: 2.5 cups
  • Ghee/Oil 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds (rice), 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal (optional): 1 tsp
  • Chana dal (soaked) 1 tsp
  • Green chili (chopped) 1-2
  • Curry leaves: 6–8 leaves
  • Ginger (grated) 1/2 tsp
  • Onion (finely chopped): 1 medium
  • Salt to taste.
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Lemon juice 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Carrot (finely chopped)
  • Beans
  • Peas
  • Capsicum

Method of preparation make Semolina Upma:

In a pan, roast semolina without oil till it turns light golden. Keep aside. Heat oil/ghee in the same pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Then add green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, and onion. Fry till the onion turns light pink.

If adding vegetables, then add them now and fry for 2-3 minutes. Now add 2.5 cups of water and add salt. Let the water boil. Now add roasted semolina slowly on low flame and keep stirring continuously so that lumps do not form. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Add lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix and serve hot. If semolina is already roasted, then you can use it directly. Adding some ghee on top enhances the taste. For children, you can also add cashews and raisins to it.
